Hi, I'm nina

My Top 3 SEO Tips for Blogs (aka drive web traffic in your sleep)!

Tired of cranking out new content on the regular only for it to fall flatter than your latest reel? Then read on for my favorite SEO tips for blogs and how to get the most SEO value out of every single post.

Content Marketing is the New Black (or pink or whatever)

If you hadn’t heard, content marketing is finally getting it’s time on center stage. So say good-bye to Facebook ads and hello to creating blog content that’s going to start driving traffic while you sleep. Sounds awesome, right? But how exactly do you do that?

Keyword Research First, Always

First things first, my #1 seo tip for blogs is that you need to write about a topic that people are actually searching on. This means doing your due diligence with keyword research as one of your first and most important SEO tasks. If you’re just starting out with SEO, look for keywords that have low SEO competition and an average monthly search volume under 250 searches. I really like the keyword research tool from Ubersuggest because it gives you related keywords suggestions, questions, etc.

The image below is a quick snapshot of the Ubersuggest tool. The SD column gives you an indicator of search difficulty. For example, the term “SEO tips for blogs,” has 210 average monthly searches, but also a low SD! This is an ideal term to target. In fact, it’s the exact term I am trying to rank for with this blog post! This tool also let’s you see what’s ranking on the first page, track you SEO efforts & more.

And if you want more tips on how to find the perfect keywords, check out this blog post all about keyword research for SEO!

User Intent

Next up is user intent! Finding the perfect keyword to target in your next blog post is great and all, but if you’re not meeting the user need or question in your content, it doesn’t really matter. Google has become really, really good at understanding a user’s intent. This means that if Google thinks your content doesn’t meet a user need or answers their question, your content will probably have an uphill battle when it comes to ranking. Or worse, your blog post ranks for something but over time, Google realizes your content doesn’t best meet the search intent of the user and it gets demoted.

Let’s do a little visual. Are you a visual person? Yeah? Me too. Ok.

See how that works? Even if your content is ranking for a term, if it doesn’t meet a user’s need or intent, it will most likely get demoted. Your best move if that happens? Rewrite the blog post to meet the user need.

On-Page Optimization – it’s still a thing!

Titles, descriptions and interlinking oh my! On-page optimization is still super important and is one of the SEO tips for blogs you shouldn’t overlook!

Here’s the breakdown of exactly what you need to do, straight from my Nitty Gritty SEO Checklist!

[Meta] Title

[Insert Target Keyword] | Brand Name

55 Characters or Less

Example: Busy Mom Meal Planning Guide | Mom Blog.com

[Meta] Description

Include your target keyword. Think of the description as a sales pitch for your content. You want people to click over to your site, so this text should be compelling.

155 characters or less.

Example: Tired of not knowing what to cook for dinner? Our busy mom meal planning guide has easy to follow tips & tricks for making meal time a breeze!

And finally! Don’t forget to link out to other pages on your website from your blog post and at least one external site. Linking to other pages on your site passes page authority and helps Google better understand how your website is structured and what it’s all about!
